iOS iPhone - iPad and Android Cabbie’s Mate App POI update:
If you are on our iOS and Android PREMIUM Subscription Cabbie’s Mate App, the October POI update will come to your phone or tablet automatically immediately after release, through the App Store and Google Play Store. If your device is set to download automatically, as soon as the update is released the device will download it. But if your device is not set to download automatically, when you open the Cabbie’s Mate app it will say ‘Updates are available’, select ‘Take me there’. Subscription customers are currently on 2016-17 A-Z maps. We hope to update A-Z maps again before Christmas. Subscription customers will always have the latest A-Z maps we release.

New A-Z - iOS maps navigation link function for all SUBSCRIPTION Cabbie’s Mate A-Z app customers. This is now a must have app for working taxi drivers.

The link has been completed and tested. It is working really well with the iOS navigation map considering restrictions by Apple iOS operating system. We have now submitted an update to the App Store for approval. This will be released automatically as soon as it’s approved, hopefully within a few days.

We have added an ‘N’ navigation button on the Cabbie’s Mate app tool bar, same as on 5” and 7” Cabbie’s Mate units. This means, when you search for a street, postcode or POI on A-Z, after the entry is found, you can tap on the ‘N’ button and your destination will be plotted on the iOS navigation map and the route will be calculated automatically from your current GPS position. It will be ready to navigate to this destination without re-entering the same address on the navigation map.

You will also be able to scroll the A-Z map, press and hold on any place with your finger and select it as a destination, after it is displayed on the A-Z map, you can then tap on the ‘N’ navigation button and it will plot your destination, calculate your route from your current GPS position on the iOS navigation map, ready to navigate. You will have 2 or 3 route options to choose before navigating. When you wish to go back to A-Z map, just tap on ‘Back to London A-Z’ on top left corner to go back. You can always switch between A-Z and iOS maps if you are navigating. If you stay on A-Z while navigating, there will be a navigation direction tool bar on top which you can follow while you are using A-Z.

We have also enabled the A to B function on A-Z to work on the iOS maps too. Users can select starting point from the A-Z search facility or by scrolling the map and selecting as starting point. Then select a destination again the same way for example Manor House to Gibson Square. Not only does it draw a cotton line on A-Z map without being there, but also by tapping on the ‘N’ button, it will plot this route on the iOS navigation map and create a route list for you to see. Please note search function for A to B is only on iPad, iPhone users should scroll and select. A-Z -iOS navigation link will work on all iPhones but it will only work on iPads if the iOS map is already working since this requires data or if you are at home with Wi-Fi. A-Z can be used on all iPhones and iPads as usual.

Although it is straight forward, we will still create a simple user manual for this A-Z - iOS navigation link with screen shots within a couple of weeks and add this on our website under ‘Support’.

We hope to link our Android Cabbie’s Mate A-Z app to Google maps next year. Only subscription customers will benefit from this new function, but all other new functions developed in the future will only be for iOS devices.

Please remember, although the functionality of both iOS and Android Cabbie’s Mate app is same, it performs much better on iPhones and iPads.

Advice on Phone or Tablet Preference for Cabbie’s Mate A-Z app

If you are going to purchase a device, our recommendation, based on our experience, would be an iOS device such as the iPhone 6 plus, 6S plus, 7 plus or the iPad. We are better placed to recommend our iOS App as there is only one manufacturer which is Apple and less versions of the operating system to work with. We know that our App works well on iOS. You will need to have a 3G (cellular) iPad for the app to work accurately; you will not need a 3G sim.

Unfortunately we cannot recommend a specific Android device as there are over 18,000 distinct Android devices on the market, device brands and models vary making it difficult for us to predict and recommend which devices and operating systems will be compatible with our app.
